I’ve begun an extensive project using an Arduino platform to create a multi-function MIDI/Sync box for use in my studio. This is my first attempt doing anything like this–previously, all my experiments were conducted in the virtual world of Max/MSP. Now I’ve got to worry about electronics and interfacing with all sorts of digital devices. Fun. I’ve started a little journal detailing my work. It’s mostly for my own use, not only as notes for what I’ve done, but it sometimes helps to write things out as it seems to force another level of analysis in my brain. As I’ve found in my regular job, if I can’t write down how something is supposed to work, then I don’ t fully know how it’s supposed to work–the process of writing the description exposes all the holes in an idea.
My first post on Arduino was a good journal entry, so I have copied it here for completeness. With my second post on MIDI Clocks, the complete geekiness of this all really hit me full-force and made me realize the necessity for separating all this nerdism from the rest of this blog. For those who want to know, look here. For those who don’t, just keep your eyes on the main blog.
